President Obama and Mitt Romney continued their campaign efforts, coming together for a light-hearted night of jokes and dinner at a charity event in New York City, Thursday (Oct. 18).  The two candidates took shots at themselves and one another, during the  Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner.

While both parties flung comments in back and forth, Obama scored with a few jokes, including quipping that he took a “nice long nap” during their first debate. Meanwhile, Romney, who was dressed in a tuxedo, joked about his reputation for being wealthy and out of touch stating that he could “finally relax and wear what Ann and I wear around the house.”

Obama also made mention of the infamous Clint Eastwood chair yelling session from the Republican National Convention. “Please take your seats. Otherwise, Clint Eastwood will yell at them,” he said. Not to be outdone, the Republican presidential hopeful poked fun at Vice President Joe Biden. “I was actually hoping the President would bring Joe Biden along this evening because he will laugh at anything,”

The dinner, attended by 1,600 people raised $5 million to benefit Catholic charities, $1 million more than in 2008’s event, attended by Obama and then Republican presidential hopeful John McCain.
