Former Hot Boys rapper Turk is nearing the end of his prison term and will mark his time behind bars by reaching another milestone: getting his high school diploma.  The New Orleans native broke the news to All Hip Hop, that he completed his necessary courses while incarcerated at Forrest City in Arkansas.

Turk, born Tab Virgil Jr., was convicted on federal gun possession charges back in 2005. His apartment was raided by the Memphis S.W.A.T. team one year earlier.

He has since claimed to have been the victim of discrimination while behind bars.  “The powers that be refuse to give me what is due to me,” he alleged. “I have been trying to resolve this problem for the last 30 months but still I remain incarcerated.”

To his credit, Turk hasn’t let his prison sentence hinder his dreams. Last year he announced plans to launch his own record label YNT, which may or may not be a joint venture with Young Money.  Between the years of 2001-2006 he released a total of six albums, and has plans to drop his seventh, once he gets out.

He’s also working on a screenplay called “Reckless,” which tells his life story.

Turk is due to be released October 12.
