Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson has had a change of heart. After refusing to sign papers to end his marriage to Evelyn Lozada the 34-year-old has decided to file his own documents in a Florida court Wednesday (Sept. 12), reports TMZ.

In response to Lozada’s paperwork filed days after their alleged altercation, Johnson cited the union as being “irretrievably broken.” He is also looking to block her request that he cover her legal fees, since a clause in their prenuptial agreement states that the couple would foot their own bill, if they were to split.

Last week, Johnson proclaimed that Lozada was still his wife on Twitter, and got her face inked on his body. He has also said that he wants to “start life over,” following the debacle. Johnson is accused of head-butting Lozada during an argument in which she accused him of cheating.

Lozada was taken a local hospital, while Johnson was arrested and freed hours later. But the backlash from the assault has affected other facets of his life as the couple’s reality show was canned by VH1, and he was fired from the Miami Dolphins.

Following the incident, Johnson released a public apology but never admitted to attacking Lozada, who gave a tearful recount of their situation during an interview with ABC’s Nightline.

Johnson has been charged with battery, but has pleaded not guilty.
