MTV’s This is How I Made It has done an exceptional job telling the story of artists who’ve broken through and this past weekend, Wiz Khalifa told his story.

This latest episode, which also featured the story of The Sopranos’ Jamie Lynn Sigler, takes a look at Wiz’s legendary self made path to stardom. They document just exactly how Wiz fell in love with rapping as well as the impressive support he received from his family at a young age.

“I’ve been a fan of music forever and that just comes from my parents,” explains Wiz. “My mom would always be singing in the house and have music playing. From Kool & The Gang, and Marvin Gaye, Sting & The Police, Bob Marley of course. There would be days where my dad would just cut off the TV and just play music all day and we’d bug out.”

Wiz also details how he first heard rap music and what got him into doing it. “I remember my Uncle spit the first rap I ever heard. I was in 3rd grade. I dont remember exactly how it went but it was called “Cool Cat,” so it was just bout being cool and being smooth,” says Wiz. “I think a week before that I saw a puff daddy video and I was like ‘theres a guy named Puff Daddy?”
