SXSW is always full of surprises, and this year is no different. Usher gave perhaps the greatest unforeseen performance thus far last night, as he closed out the show with the Afghan Whigs. Unsuspecting fans were wowed when the Atlanta superstar took the stage with the rock group, who backed live renditions of hit records ranging from “Climax” to “OMG.”

“Surprise Surprise,” joked the singer before covering a few of Afghan’s tracks. It wasn’t long before Ursher segued into  his own material, though. After leaving the stage, the crowd chanted the singer’s name, and like a true showman, the Atlanta native returned saying, “This is some real life Shyte you know. SXSW brings out the best in you. This is raw entertainment here.”

He closed with an acapella performance of noteworthy songs like “Bad Girl,” “You Got It Bad,” and “Lovers and Friends.” Usher was also made sure to ask that fans pray for Lil Wayne, who at the the time was thought to be on his death bed as a result of a seizure. Reports have since revealed that this information was false.
