Can A$AP Ferg live up to the hype? We’ll have the answer to that question when the bubbling MC releases his Trap Lord project August 20. Before then, the Internets receive another sample via a syrupy tune called “Hood Pope.”

The title implies — like overall the theme of his debut — that Fergenstein isn’t waiting for the people to crown him king; rather, he’s claiming his god MC  status on his own.

“Hood Pope” is clearly his call to arms.

The song is noticeably slower than the knocking anthems that garnered Ferg a following; however, the change of pace isn’t a bad thing. The Harlem rapper spits with a dexterous flow and flexes his affinity for harmonizing over the track’s hazy sonics.

The highly anticipated Trap Lord will don 13-tracks and features from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, French Montana, ScHoolboy Q, Onyx, A$AP Rocky, Waka Flocka Flame, and more.

Listen to A$AP Ferg’s “Hood Pope” below. Let us know if you’re feeling it in the comments.
