Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg and Cipha Sounds (together known as “Juan Epstein”) brought the best out of their latest guest Rick Ross. Most fans equate MMG’s general to the mafioso figure he portrays, but this discussion touches on his life prior to fame, how me Kanye West met over a decade ago, and more.

Ross, 36-years-old, was dabbling in Hip-Hop years before receiving his big break. He actually had a tumultuous journey that led to ghostwriting rhymes for others and allowed him to rub elbows with a list of industry figures, including Cipha.

“Me and Kanye, we actually met in that same studio I mentioned, Studio Center. He actually was making beats for — I don’t want to say they name,” recalled The Bawse. “I was writing for this person that began just getting beats from Kanye. They’d be in the other room and me and Kanye would be by ourselves.”

He continued, “I was spitting my raps that no one loved locally, he was playing me his beats. He said, ‘Man, you should let me executive produce your album.'”

Ross basically curved the G.O.O.D. Music producer, because they’d yet to build a rapport. But this planted the seed for a working relationship that is strong till this day.

Later in the convo, Ross said, “The week before he got in his accident, we made plans for that following week for him to make beats for me.”
