Meek Mill sat with the Hot 97 morning show earlier today (May 19) to promote his new single “I Don’t Know,” but the conversation went much deeper than that. While music was a topic, the rapper was even more candid when discussing conditions in his native Philadelphia, why he believes that his parole officer is praying on his downfall, and more.

Minutes into the half-hour interview, it’s clear that this is much more mature Meek than we’ve seen in the past. The MMG rapper was noticeably frustrated when speaking about his probation issues. “I was appointed straight to her,” Meek said about his parole officer, who’s known for being strict. But here’s the kicker: she’s usually appointed to domestic abuse offenders, while the rap star had a drug charge.

Meek, however, remains optimistic despite the push and pull relationship with his P.O. He actually knows what he means to his family, his community and city, and cited personal conversations he’s had with youth in the streets.

“I want to show them kids that all that other stuff don’t mean nothing,” Meek explained. “Going to jail early, dying at a [young] age… you don’t even count to the real world when you do that to yourself. Do you want to be a king or you want to be a goon?”
