On the R&B front, few artists are making noise like Ty Dolla $ign, the singer-songwriter who scored his own hits in “Paranoid” and “Or Nah,” while penning Billboard smashes including Chris Brown’s “Loyal” for others. Today, Los Angeles native follows up a major look on XXL‘s Freshman cover with a solo appearance on the front of FADER magazine’s June/July issue.

The former of Ty Dolla’s aforementioned singles was recently certified gold. That called for this candid interview, during which the crooner opened up about his upbringing, his music, and his daughter, Jailynn.

The West Coaster was questioned about the elephant in the room: his often misogynistic lyrics. “I’m not tryna promote being the best fucking American man,” Ty told FADER. “I’m promoting partying and having fun and being that type of American. I don’t wanna hurt nobody’s feelings.”

He continued, “I’m not gonna front and act like your boyfriend. I’m out here, you know what I’m saying? I’m about to go on tour! It’s like running for the presidency… except without a wife.”

What else do you expect from a guy who boastfully chanted, “I used to love these hoes, but now I love this money?” Peep Ty Dolla $ign’s FADER cover below.
