In terrible news out of the Brooklyn borough, we learn yet another unarmed man was shot and killed by New York City’s finest.

Buzzfeed reports:

Two uniformed officers were on what is called a “vertical patrol” inside the Pink Houses at 2724 Linden Boulevard at 11:15 p.m., police said. The patrols are a routine tactic where officers begin at the top of a public housing tower and take the stairwell down, checking each floor.

When the officers were in what police called a “dimly-lit” stairwell on the eighth-floor landing, they “encountered a 28-year-old male who entered the stairwell at the seventh floor,” police said.

One officer shot a single bullet and struck the man in the chest, police said. The man, whose identity was being withheld by authorities pending family notification, later died at Brookdale Hospital, police said. 1010 WINS news reports that the man was not armed and no weapon was recovered from the scene.

The officers were taken to Jamaica Hospital for routine evaluation, police said.

An NYPD spokesman said the incident is still under investigation and that he was “not going to get into” why the officer decided to fire his weapon.

The article made no mention of the slain man’s race, but history allows us to presume he was probably Black.

Internal Affairs is currently investigating the incident.
