The sights and scenes located in the thick of Hollywood Blvd. always reflects the hustle and bustle associated with the entertainment industry, however yesterday, March 31st, there was a more golden reason why the famed street appeared like a zoo. Shiekh Shoes was unveiling their exclusive collaboration with Tyga and his new Liquid Gold L.A. Lights sneaker with LA Gear and droves of patient but eager fans lined up outside to get a chance to meet their “40 Mill” hero.
Hip-Hop Wired also inserted ourselves in the midst of all the shiny sneaker fanfare and we got a chance to ask the superstar exactly why he chose that particular color to debut with. After all, gold is usually reserved for the top-of-the-line functions opposed to your every day wear. However, the color selection is all about channeling one’s inner royalty.
“I’ve always been into gold since I was younger and when you look at gold, it’s like the sun, you know what I mean?” he tells Hip-Hop Wired. “It just have a lot of self-empowerment to the color and that’s what it represents to me. This is the first launch of shoes I have coming with L.A. Gear. I actually have a running shoe coming out as well. I just wanted people to focus on me being a part of the brand and then we’ll launch into other stuff.”
Priced at $100, the Liquid Gold L.A. Lights instantly propels the once revered brand back to the center of attention. Fans appeared to be equally excited about the launch all the same. We spoke to Ryan who drove all the way from San Francisco to be the first person in line. “I really likes how it represents the Asian community and his story is all about working hard,” he tells us.
With great notoriety comes a great responsiblity to bear a certain burden and Tyga has experienced his fair share of being sensationalized in the media before his career has even begun to peak. Still, the 25-year-old star reveals he’s built for the long haul.
“I just stay focused on what I need to do as an artist. When I was 14 [years-old] and making music in my room, I didn’t sign up [for this] and thinking about gossip sites and the limelight. I was just thinking about the feeling it gave me when I recorded music,” he continued.
