While retired Black tennis player James Blake has publicly eluded to the fact that the NYPD roughing him up last week was motivated by race, he spoke out in further detail about how he was treated. Blake is now calling for the firing of the thug cop that ran up to him and slammed him to the ground in front of a Manhattan hotel.

Blake sat down exclusively with the New York Post to speak about the incident that occurred on Sept. 9 as Blake was awaiting a ride to the U.S. Open to take part in a corporate event. Blake, a former top-five ranked tennis star, was assaulted by the police in a case of mistaken identity related to a credit card fraud sting. In his chat with the Post, Blake aimed pointed words at the officer and what his job status should be going forward.

From the New York Post:

“I don’t think he deserves to have a badge,” James Blake said of Officer James Frascatore, who body-slammed the athlete outside a Midtown hotel last week during a fraud takedown.

“I hope he can never do that to anyone else and get away with it,” Blake told The Post on Saturday. “I hope he can never do that again under the shield of the New York Police Department.”

Commissioner Bill Bratton and Mayor de Blasio apologized to him personally last week, but Blake, 35, wasn’t satisfied.

“There’s got to be more. That can’t be the end. It can’t be an apology and then we move on our way,” he said. “We need to do something about this never happening again, because the more I think about it, the more I get frustrated this could happen to someone I care about, not just me.

“I would welcome a meeting with the commissioner, with the mayor, with whoever else feels the need to speak about this. I would love to learn what their plan is.”

Officer Frascatore, 38, has a record of civilian complaints related to excessive force yet a relative told the Post that Blake’s claims were “absurd” and that the cop was being “railroaded” due to the tensions between police and people of color across the nation.

Naturally, the relative claims Frascatore is being unfairly judged and the incident doesn’t note his character. That same relative added that if Blake didn’t have celebrity status that the issue wouldn’t be front page news.

Blake, to his credit, gave compliments to the NYPD and called them “heroes” but was clear in not including Frascatore in that group.

CORRECTION: We mistakenly stated that Blake initially said race wasn’t a factor in his assault by the NYPD. We have since corrected our snafu. Our apologies.
