In an up-and-down season marred by questionable personnel changes, the Philadelphia Eagles have fired head coach Chip Kelly. Kelly, who led the team to an NFC Eastern Division Championship in 2013, was let go after amassing a 6-9 record with its most recent loss to the Washington Professional Football team over the weekend.

NFL.com reports:

The Philadelphia Eagles didn’t wait for Monday to make the first stunning coaching move of the offseason. Head coach Chip Kelly has been fired.

“We appreciate all the contributions that Chip Kelly made and wish him every success going forward,” Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement.

Kelly has been under fire by fans of the team after trading longtime favorite quarterback Nick Foles for St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford. The signing of former Dallas Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray was a Kelly move that was met with acceptance.

Kelly, a notoriously private individual, has yet to speak publicly about the firing. He was brought in by the team because of his reported offensive schemes and his success as a coach for the Oregon Ducks.
