YG‘s new album Still Brazy just came out this week and he’s already thinking Grammy nomination.
YG’s sophomore album Still Brazy “leaked” on Apple Music on Wednesday and was officially released on Friday. But even though the new car smell is still on it, YG thinks that this album is undeniably worthy of a Grammy nomination.
In an interview with Billboard YG says:
I think it’s time for me to get that stamp. I need a Grammy or a nomination. Just give me my nomination. I feel like motherf*ckers always be questioning me and my rap shit. They always like, “He don’t be rapping about nothing” or “He’s a singles dude. He just live for singles” or “He ain’t gonna be able to make another My Krazy Life, another classic.” They always saying sh*t like that when it comes to YG. I want this album to shut their *ss up.
YG’s debut album, 2014’s My Krazy Life, was a #1 Billboard album, was critically-acclaimed and considered the yin to Kendrick Lamar’s Good Kid, Maad City yang. However he nor the album and any of its song were nominated for any Grammys that year.
YG chalked the snubs up to the Recording Academy not liking gangsta rap as albums from Wiz Khalifa, Common, Childish Gamino, Iggy Azalea and ScHoolboy Q were nominated ahead of him. Of course, Eminem’s album beat them all.
With this year’s Grammy pool looking like it’s going to be dominated by Khalifa, Drake, Kanye West and possibly Kevin Gates and Royce 5’9, does YG stand a chance this year either?
