The New York Knicks are off to one of the hottest starts in their storied franchise and much of it can be attributed to the emergence of Earl Joseph “J.R.” Smith.
Outside of J.R.’s obvious talents on the basketball court, Smith has been an enigmatic talent ever since entering the National Basketball Association straight out of St. Benedict High School in Newark, NJ.
Always a lightning rod for brilliance and trouble, Smith is a walking catch-22. You never know if he is going to cause some controversy off of the court while being a star on the court, since he’s known for just about both.
One of the NBA’s most prolific tweeter, he’s delivered the most expensive twitpic in NBA history as well as gotten into multiple traffic violations and inciting brawls on the court. He’s also a perennial Sixth Man of the Year candidate with All-Star scoring talent, capable of lighting a team up for 30 at the drop of a hat.
Hip-Hop Wired takes a look at who is currently becoming one of our favorite athletes in Hip-Hop, J.R. Smith. Hit the jump to get to know Earl.
