Longtime ESPN anchor Stuart Scott is battling cancer for the third time, he announced yesterday. Scott went on Twitter to reveal that news and was flooded with shows of support.
“Blessed by prayers..I’m back in the Fight. C reared its head again,” he wrote. “Chemo evry 2 wks but I’ll still work, still work out..still #LIVESTRONG.” He also responded to the outpouring of well wishes. “Thanks for prayers..ill fight w ALL C survivors & loved ones. Cancer wants to re-appear..picked the right guy cuz I HIT HARD all day long!!”
After making the announcement, Scott hosted Sports Center later in the evening. ESPN spokesman Mike Soltys said that Scott has “plans to continue to work the best he can around his treatments.”
Back in 2007 Scott was diagnosed with cancer during an appendectomy. Four years later, doctors found tumors in his small intestine, prompting an operation and more chemotherapy, all of which helped him to remain cancer free, until Monday’s announcement.
The 47-year-old has been one of the faces of ESPN for more than a decade, and has not yet revealed where the cancer is located.
