Yeah yeah, don’t act like Hip-Hop heads aren’t down with the Force. Word is that J.J. Abrams will be directing the next Star Wars film.

Deadline reports the creator of Lost and Alias, director of Cloverfield and multiple dream entries on anyone’s Hollywood resume has been tabbed to direct the recently announced Episode VII of the Star Wars saga. ” “It’s (sic) done deal with J.J.,” says Deadline’s source.

Back in late October 2012, Disney purchased LucasFilms, the film company founded by Star Wars creator and director George Lucas, for a cool  $4.05 billion. Part of the deal included the release of Star Wars, Episode VII in 2015. There are plans for two more Star Wars films every two year after to complete a third trilogy. No word on if Abrams will direct all the films but the new installments will focus on a new generation of characters. There are rumors of Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) reprising their roles according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Abrams has long been rumored to take over directing the franchise (reportedly Ben Affleck was vying for the job. too), and dismissed any interest in the notion. Clearly he changed his mind. But what makes this news even more incredible is that Abrams is already in the director’s chair of the rebooted Star Trek franchise. The latest film, Star Trek Into Darkness, is due in theaters May 17.
