Why have you forsaken us Aaron McGruder? The big announcement from The Boondocks and its aforementioned creator was an upcoming live action movie based on the self-loathing Uncle Ruckus character.

Many thought the big reveal was going to be a premiere date for season 4 of The Boondocks. Instead what we did get was a teaser trailer for The Uncle Ruckus Movie that that McGruder is hoping to create independently.

“Hey all, this may not be the announcement you were expecting, but thanks so much for your support! We really appreciate it!,” read the message that accompanied the video.

Ya think?

In the clip, a real life Uncle Ruckus is seen dramatically unfurling a Confederate flag to loud applause. Which makes perfect sense for Ruckus.

McGruder is hoping to raise funds to complete the film. Via the Kickstarter page:

If you do know who Uncle Ruckus is, you either really love him or really hate him. But if you’ve made it this far, you probably love him like we do. This is your movie.

To that end, we are raising funds for an R-rated theatrical comedy featuring Uncle Ruckus, to be produced this year. The movie will be written and directed by AARON MCGRUDER, and stars GARY ANTHONY WILLIAMS – who does the voice of Uncle Ruckus on the animated series. The story, which is currently being written,  will not involve any of the other regular BOONDOCKS characters, but rather explore a part of the Ruckus family not seen in the show.

McGruder is going the Kickstarter route because Sony, who produces The Boondocks animated series, is not involved with the movie at all. McGruder hopes to raise $200K in a month’s time to get the ball rolling on making the movie a reality. Supporters will possibly get Uncle Ruckus schwag like t-shirts, downloads or a DVD of the movie after its release.

Will you be supporting McGruder’s latest venture? More importantly for now, when can we get a premiere date for season 4 of The Boondocks?
