A shootout in Las Vegas ended with three casualties early Thursday (Feb. 21). The incident took place at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, when a person in a black Range Rover opened fire on a Maserati causing it to crash into a taxi that caught fire.

Three people were killed and at least six were left injured.

Both the driver and passenger in the taxi are dead along with the driver of the Maserati. A total of six vehicles were involved in the accident. “The people I feel sorry for are the people in the taxi,” said a tourist.” Seconds made all the difference in the world for them. Wrong place, wrong time.”

Police believe that the shootout was the result of an earlier altercation at a casino. The accident shut down the famed Las Vegas strip, and surprised some visitors in the city to have a good time. “This doesn’t happen where we come from, not on this scale,” noted visitor Mark Thompson, from Manchester, England. “We get stabbings, and gang violence, but this is like something out of a movie. Like ‘Die Hard’ or something.”

Authorities in three neighboring states were contacted to keep a lookout for the Range Rover which fled the scene at around 4:20 a.m.. Witnesses told cops that the luxury truck and sports car came from nearby City Center. “We have numerous witnesses to this,” Las Vegas Police Sgt. John Sheahan said. “But what is the genesis of this? We don’t know yet.”

There is also video surveillance of the incident which will be reviewed, but not released to the public.
