Those who follow male fashion blogger and TV personality B. Scott know that the openly gay fashionista’s style errs on the side of hyper-feminine. However, when Scott was hosting BET’s red carpet on Sunday as part of the 2013 BET Awards, his style was noticeably toned down.
Prior to Scott’s appearance, he was forced by BET to make obvious changes to his look. While BET has now publicly apologized for their actions, Scott is rejecting their pleas, claiming he wants a real apology from the network.
Billboard reports that Scott’s initial outfit for the ceremony included a long black skirt with his long hair down and styled for the occasion. His heels were swapped for flats, hair smoothed into a ponytail, and he was placed in a pantsuit. Scott was also asked to remove all makeup from his face. He was openly angry about the situation, stating that he felt as though BET was attacking who he was as a person. While B. Scott has previously appeared on BET in his signature look, he claims he was physically pulled from the red carpet this time, being forced to change. A co-host, Adrienne Bailon, was also added in the final hour despite Scott being told he’d host the event alone.
BET issued the following formal apology to the blogger:
BET Networks embraces global diversity in all its forms and seeks to maintain an inclusive workforce and a culture that values all perspectives and backgrounds,” the statement read. “The incident with B. Scott was a singular one with a series of unfortunate miscommunications from both parties. We regret any unintentional offense to B. Scott and anyone within the LGBT community and we seek to continue embracing all gender expressions.
Scott is saying that’s not enough.
“I want a real apology from BET,” Scott explains. “This was a not a mutual misunderstanding or miscommunication. I pride myself on being very professional.”
This has all the makings of B. Scott getting his own reality show as a consolation. Stay tuned.
