Sorry to interrupt you, Rap Internets, but there might be another young West Coast rapper worthy of your attention.

Rap Radar’s Elliott Wilson chopped it up with Odd Future standout Earl Sweatshirt about his upcoming album Doris, the Wolf Gang, and much more for the latest installment of The Truth series.

Wilson’s interview, presented in conjunction with Jay Z’s Life + Times imprint, took place in New York’s A-1 Record Shop and the pair got their fingers dirty digging through the crates. After a humorous segment of Earl clowning the covers of past New Edition albums, Wilson dug in to ask about the theme of Doris.

“You can’t really gauge until you listen to it throroughly,” answered Earl, speaking on the string of leaks he’s released so far. “[Because] the sh-t that I like is naturally more like sludgy stuff, very imperfect stuff, like very distorted.”

Earl mentioned Wu-tang Clan’s RZA and his contribution to the record as well.

“RZA’s sound, that sh-t is just hard as f-ck,” Earl said. “We got the perfect one, because he played some sh-t and it was like whatever, then he played this one sample that we ended up using for the song and it was like ‘oh my god’ like it actually sounded like some Raekwon sh-t.”

Check out the rest of the The Truth interview with Earl Sweatshirt in the clip below. Doris drops August 20.
