A parolee wanted in the shooting of four officers surrendered himself to authorities after a standoff that lasted nine hours. Sammy Duran, 32, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 26) morning in Roseville, Calif., a city in the northern part of the state.
Several officers surrounded a home that Duran barricaded himself in after he allegedly shot a Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer in the leg and shooting it out with Roseville police. Two of the Roseville cops were shot in the jaw and shoulder respectively, while a third officer was hit with shrapnel. One of the officers remains in serious condition according to the latest reports.
Roseville Police Chief Daniel Hahn says that the other officers are doing well and their injuries are not life threatening. “Everybody’s doing as well as can be expected,” Hahn said. “The families are with them, and we’re hoping for a quick recovery.”
Duran has been on the U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement watch list for weeks, after it was suspected that Duran was leading a gang operation. ICE agents confronted Duran along with local authorities when he shot the immigration officer around 3 p.m. PT. Duran fled on foot with the officers giving chase and broke into a home where the long standoff began.
Brenda Bell, the owner of the home Duran broke into, was in her residence at the time of the break-in with her mother and daughter. A dog warned them of an intruder and police safely got the family out through the front as Duran snuck in via a back door.
A reported 10 law enforcement agencies were involved apprehending Duran.
