Yo Gotti is currently on a press run promoting his major label debut I Am. Last night, that led him to The Arsenio Hall Show to chop it up with the host and perform “Cold Blood” and “King Sh*t.”

Prior to that, he sat down with Hall to discuss a bevy of topics ranging from the origin of his name to southern Hip-Hop finally receiving its just due. Of the former, Gotti said, “My name Mario, so it [his nickname] was always ‘Yo.'”

He continued, “Then the older cats from the neighborhood, they started calling me ‘Gotti’ when I was like 11 or 12, because I used to be in a pack with my partners on our bikes.” Because he was the leader, the name Gotti stuck long term.

Since running with that moniker, the rapper had ample success independently. He now calls Epic Records home.

I Am is currently available for purchase via iTunes. See Yo Gotti’s live rendition of “Cold Blood” and “King Sh*t” below. The interview can be found on the next page
