You may have just gotten hip to Cap 1 since he’s been rolling with 2 Chainz, the but Chicago native is no rookie. Back in the early 2000s he was the first rapper signed to Motown Records, and in 2014 the slick talking, luxury trap music making rapper is taking all the experience he picked up along the way to flourish.

How deep are Cap’s Chi-Town Hip-Hop roots? The demo that got him sign was produced by none other than Kanye West. “I came up with Kanye West,” says Cap, whose latest mixtape, Caviar Dreams, is available now. “We was grinding since high school. He actually did my demo that I got signed to Motown with. He used to always preach character. Like, you can rap, give them character.”

Part of Cap’s learning curve included not getting all the dough he deserved when he was ghostwriting with Yung Berg. Learn about that and more when you check out Hip-Hop Wired’s exclusive interview with Cap 1 above.
