Following a loss at the Oscars, we imagined Pharrell saying, “I’m winning any motherf**king way. I can’t lose,” a la Denzel Washington’s “Alonzo Harris” in Training Day. The producer reaffirmed our hypothesis while speaking with Hot 97’s Angie Martinez a day following the awards show.

“No way. I feel ok. Listen, that experience was incredible,” Skateboard P said after the loss. Besides, how can anyone with the number one album [G I R L] in “about 60 countries” on iTunes at the moment be upset?

He continued, “I’m like ‘Thank you guys.’ I attribute my success to all of these great breaks and opportunities that the universe has given me.”

The song that propelled Pharrell’s recent LP to those heights was the spirit-lifting single, “Happy,” which originally appeared on the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack. The Grammy winner says it took him nine tries to create a recordd that fit the vision of Illumination Entertainment (the company behind the Despicable Me franchise) owner Chris Meledandri’s vision of creating a soulful version of Katrina and the Waves’ 1983 hit record, “Walking On Sunshine.”

Hear Pharrell speak more on creating “Happy,” Arby’s purchasing his infamous Vivienne Westwood ranger hat, and more in the interview below.
