The NBA has meted out swift justice. Today (April 29), NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announced that Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been banned for life.

Along with the lifetime ban, the NBA has also fined Sterling $2.5 million, the maximum allowed by league rules. Silver relayed that he spoke to Sterling who admitted it was his voice spewing racist rhetoric on the audio recording that started this entire debacle.

“We stand together in condemning Mr. Sterling’s views,” Silver told the assembled press. “They simply have no place in the N.B.A.”

Silver revealed that he spoke to Chris Paul and Doc Rivers of the Clippers on Saturday morning, noting that the entire situation saddened him and was “incredibly hurtful.”

The commissioner, who has been on the job only a few months, is urging that the board of governors in the NBA force Sterling to sell the ball club.

The Clippers wasted no time updating their homepage with a “We are one” message (see it on the flip). Has justice been served? Let us know what you think in the comments.
