RNC Chairman Michael Steele is trying to ease the minds of members of his party now that one of his top officials has decided to step down.

The RNC’s chief of staff Ken McKay made the announcement Monday that he would be leaving office just days after news broke that RNC funds were used in a bondage themed L.A. strip club.

Following that Curt Anderson, who supported Steele’s victory as RNC chairman in 2009, sent out an email saying that his political strategy firm, OnMessage Inc., would be distancing themselves from him as well.

The fallout from the scandal is apparently leaving Steele scrambling and the chairman sent out an email Monday to members of the RNC assuring them that there was no reason to panic especially since he already fired the mid level staffer blamed for the strip club flub.

He writes that he and his staff had,

“the responsibility to assure our donors, volunteers and voters that it’s nothing but our core mission which drives every dollar we spend, every phone call we make, every e-mail we send and every event we organize. Recent events have called that into question. The buck stops with me. That is why I have made this change in management.”

He also adds that he will not step down from office and that,

“Every minute spent on distractions is an unacceptable missed opportunity to do what you do best — taking back our country for the American people.”

Check out this interview Steele gave to Good Morning America Monday defending himself and adding that because he and The President are Black, that they have a “slimmer margin of error.”

Gasp!

Uhhh, yeah ya think?!
