Now that Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V has been fully visualized, it’s about time we hear some finished product.

Hip-Hop Wired continued the coverage on the black carpet at the 2014 BMI R&B & Hip-Hop Awards when approached by two individuals likely to play a key part in the recording process.

Mannie Fresh was the original heat supplier for the Hot Boys and their reunion photo in the studio generated quite the buzz. The legendary DJ tells Hip-Hop Wired that he’s “simply the beat architect” and is just enjoying the ride as the final tracklist is being hammered out. “If you know Tha Carter 1, then you know Mannie Fresh and we’re just trying to recapture that sound.”

Although he doesn’t share the same facial recognition as the Magnolia beatsmith, Key Wane definitely has earned the same respect amongst his peers in a fraction of the time. The Detroit native has most recently found his sounds placed in the hands of Beyoncé, Drake and Ariana Grande. Although he doesn’t deny submitting beats for Wayne’s fifth Carter installment, his guess is as good as yours whether or not they’ll make the cut.

“Regardless, Carter V, Carter VI, Carter VII–I’m going to listen to them whether I’m on it or not,” he said with a grin.

Hit the top to peep the entire interview where both distinguished producers discuss their recent accolades, including Mannie Fresh’s Red Bull honor event.
