Day two of the 2014 Budweiser Made In America Festival in Philadelphia became a common case of déjà vu.
A week prior, yours truly was caught up in the rapture of an epic downpour that dampened the Trillectro Music Festival in Washington D.C. And the inclement weather was quite similar (worse, even) in the City of Brotherly Love.
Earlier in the day, before the waterworks began, attendees championed through sweltering temperatures to see an array of artists, including rappers YG and Danny Brown, as well as producers Girl Talk and Pharrell Williams.
The Compton native kicked off his second Made In America appearance of the weekend (he performed in Los Angeles yesterday (August 31)) with a live rendition of tracks from his 2014 debut My Krazy Life. Brown took the opposing Liberty stage directly after during an energetic set that included fan-favorite cuts from his breakout 2011 project, XXX, and the 2013 follow-up Old.
Then came the rain. We’re talking a downpour so epic that fans and media alike were asked to evacuate the Benjamin Franklin Parkway for about a half an hour due to the lightning.
The show eventually restarted with amended set times. Girl Talk made drenched fans forget about their current disposition with a set full of Rap and EDM mash-ups and a guest appearance by Philly’s own Freeway. Pharrell later represented Hip-Hop via his GIRL initiative with a performance laden with hits from his last LP and lengthy discography.
Budweiser and Jay Z can pat themselves on the back for another year well done. Until next time.
