When referencing Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” video, it should probably be mentioned in historical context. After all, it is the first music video to be inducted into the National Film Registry by the Library Of Congress.
Thriller’s original director, John Landis is looking to reintroduce the storied 14-minute clip back into the new generation by releasing it in 3-D. The man behind Coming to America and An American Werewolf in Paris tells the NYDailyNews that now that a legal dispute over royalties with the late musician’s estate has been settled, the mini-movie will be more vivid than ever.
“That lawsuit went on for so many years, (but) we settled and they paid me finally,” Landis said. “And so, actually there is something happening with ‘Thriller.’ It is going to reappear in a highly polished and three-dimensional way that is very exciting on the big screen.”
When asked for further details, Landis let out a metaphorical joke saying “I cannot tell you any more… I might have to kill you.”
The revamped project is expected to be released in 2015. For you nostalgic types and kids not old enough to understand the significance of the news, the video can be found on the next page.
