Yet another teacher in the New York City area has been popped for having a sexually inappropriate relationship with one of their students. The latest alleged culprit is Megan Mahoney, the 24-year-old female gym teacher out of Staten Island is said to have had a two-month relationship with a 16-year-old boy who she enticed by offering to coach him in basketball.

According to the Staten Island Advance, Mahoney is facing third-degree rape charges, criminal sexual act in the third-degree, endangering the welfare of a child and 30 counts of statutory rape. The court documents claim that they would engage in sexual intercourse and mutual oral sex “at least two times a week” between the time periods of October 31, 2013 and January 9, 2014. The police investigation concluded that a lot of the encounters happened on school grounds. “We would just drive around and [do it] in the car,” the unidentified boy reportedly said.

After the allegations became a topical part of conversation, Mahoney resigned from Moore Catholic High School, where she also was an assistant coach on the women’s basketball team in January of this year.

She was arrested on Monday and released without bail, the New York Post reports. Moore’s athletic director, Richard Postiglione was also investigated on whether he failed to report to alleged crimes. The scandal was also reportedly broke open by the teen’s ex-girlfriend, who called the cops after she saw the two out at a local pizzeria.

Mahoney is also a former collegiate athlete, playing ball for both Fordham University and Wagner College.

Taking advantage of the malleable minds of the youth is no laughing matter but these stories are so prevalent in America, they are desensitizing to the general public.
