An attorney for the family of the 7-year-old girl shot and killed by Detroit police is making allegations that police lied about the child’s death and are trying to cover up their wrongdoing.

As previously reported 7-year-old Aiyana Jones was killed May 16 when police, who were taping for a reality TV show, burst into her family’s home looking for a murder suspect.

Police claim that one of the officer’s weapons accidentally discharged during a scuffle with her grandmother and hit the child in the neck.

Attorney Geoffrey Fieger is disputing those claims however and says that an independent autopsy proves that the child was not struck in the neck as reported, but in the head.

The attorney’s allegations corroborate with a statement Jones’ grandmother  previously released to the Detroit News saying,

They blew my granddaughter’s brains out. They killed her right before my eyes. I watched the light go out of her eyes. I seen it.”

Attorney Fieger held a press conference Tuesday surrounded by weeping members of the child’s family and says that he has evidence that the fatal shot was fired blindly into the house through an open doorway.

He tells reporters,

“He pulled the trigger and shot into the house. That’s not an accident. Why he did it, I can’t tell you. What he was aiming at, I can’t tell you. But, I can tell you it’s not an accident.”
