Derrick Rose remains one of the more talented players in the NBA, dazzling with speed, quickness, and a remarkable ability to score. Unfortunately, his progression as a ball player has been thwarted by injuries, the most recent of which he suffered during the Chicago Bulls win against the Toronto Raptors last night (November 13).

Rose injured his left hamstring late in the game, after a few sprained ankles. “I guess it’s cramps in my hamstrings,” he told ESPN. “But I think it’s minor, and they decided to pull me out.” This scenario has become all too familiar since Rose tore his ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) during the 2011-2012 playoffs. Missing the entire following season, the hoops star returned in 2013-2014, but his run ended on November 22, when he tore the meniscus in his right knee.

All facts considered, one has to be weary of Rose’s health. Especially when we’ve seen stories like this before–namely Grant Hill, who also was on the road to greatness, saw his career derailed by injuries.

Simply put, to be Rose then, you have to be Rose now. But through it all, we still think the he’s an elite player with a hell of a future. Here are 10 reasons Derrick Ross isn’t like Grant Hill.

Know Thyself

While speaking with Bloomberg View, Hill said Rose did the right thing by sitting out a full season to heal. Had the former Detroit Piston done the same thing, he might have given his ankle a fighting chance.

Sports Medicine

Time have changed since the days when injuries sidelined Hill. Specifically, doctors, trainers, and the like have drastically improved how they treat remedying sports injuries. How else can one explain what’s see above.

So Far, So Good

Rose has suffered derailing injuries, but none have been reoccurring (unlike Hill)–a great sign if you ask us.

Unfinished Business

From a competitive standpoint, Rose already said that he foresees himself winning the MVP award this season. Not to mention that LeBron James won two championships (one of which he defeated the Bulls to win). Hill, at his best, aspired to be better than Michael Jordan was at the time, but was never a deterrent from him winning the big cheese.

 Team Spirit

With the addition of Pau Gasol to an already talented roster, the Bulls could make the playoffs in the Eastern Conference without Rose. If their leader was to sit multiple games or God forbid, get re-injured, he could still win a championship if he were to get well in time.

Again, back in Hill’s day, MJ’s choke hold on the NBA wasn’t ending any time soon.

Most Valuable

Hill has never been MVP. Rose, however, has.
