Sneaker culture has witnessed the rise of boutique owner and designer Ronnie Fieg, the recent subject of piece in New York Times.

Written from a personal space, the story highlights some of Fieg’s habits, giving readers some indication of how his meticulous ways directly correlates with his success so far.

Here’s an excerpt about how he observes customers in his store, KITH:

I’ll go to the store for a couple hours after that. When I come into the shop I like to see the traffic, and see the split of what people do when they walk in the door. Are they turning right, or left? I like to people-watch a lot. That’s something that I do when I travel. But there’s no better place to do it than New York City. You see every different culture.

Separately, Fieg collaborates with some of the biggest shoe brands. He recently dropped a New Balance 530 inspired by parks in his native New York City.
