Chicago’s Mick Jenkins displayed his penchant for social commentary on The Water[s], a thought provoking mixtape heavily inspired by the socio-economic conditions and violence plaguing his hometown. Continuing this trend, the promising MC recalls the injustice surrounding Eric Garner’s murder at the hands of police on “11.”
“The man said i can’t breathe….11 times…,” Jenkins tweeted.
The Chicago wordsmith expounds on that as he rhymes, though not exclusively about Garner’s death, throughout the record. Showing a mastery of lyricism, Jenkins tells a passionate story, during which he shares his angst for the system.
