Dust La Rock, a co-founder and former creative director of the Fool’s Gold imprint, has died. According to fellow Fool’s Gold co-founder A-Trak, Dust La Rock died Monday (Feb. 2). He was 38.
Dust La Rock, born Joshua Prince, was known as one of the driving forces behind the indie label alongside A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs. The trio formed Fool’s Gold Records in 2007, and it has since morphed into one of the most respected brands in music today. Prince’s role within the label occurred between 2007 and 2012, where he was also the chief designer for many of the label’s 12-inch record sleeve covers.
A-Trak made the announcement of Prince’s passing via Instagram, featuring a 2009 photo of his friend. The message was certainly heartfelt and it appeared the pair remained close despite the split Prince made from the label.
From A-Trak’s Instagram page:
Lost one of my dearest friends today. RIP Joshua Prince aka Dust La Rock, original Fool’s Gold co-founder… Art director for myself, Fool’s Gold and Duck Sauce. You helped define so much of what I stand for. Love you man. Still can’t believe this.
Some of Prince’s work for Fool’s Gold can be seen here. He also worked with A-Trak and Armand Van Helden’s group project, Duck Sauce, designing covers and other creative work with the house music duo.
