It’s a well-documented fact that high school teachers are sleeping with their students and are getting caught on the regular. So the allegations against 29-year-old Maria Contreras on having sex with her 14-year-old student isn’t all that surprising. The big story here is that Contreras was a substitute paraprofessional entrusted by the Department of Education at the Bronx Academy of Letters in Mott Haven, New York and her student was mentally disabled kid.
ABC7 is reporting that Contreras no long has a job with the Department of Education as she’s been terminated after she was arrested on Saturday, February 7.
“These allegations are incredibly disturbing,” the Department of Education stated in a released statement. “Ms. Contreras has been removed from her position and will no longer be employed by the DOE. We are working with NYPD on their investigation.”
According to police, Contreras is said to have raped the teen multiple times at her Bronx apartment on Barker Avenue during the week of November 11.
She has been charged with six counts of rape and two counts of criminal sexual activity with a child under the age of fifteen.
