It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since Ludacris debuted with “What’s Your Fantasy.” Since then, he’s won three GRAMMY awards and been in an Oscar-winning film.

So how did he do it? While promoting the movie Furious 7 and his upcoming Ludaversal album, Ludacris took questions from fans online who could ask him almost anything. Here are 11 things we learned from Ludacris’ reddit AMA.

The Rock And Terrence Howard Are Key Influences

Luda says the actors who had the biggest influence on his career are Terrence Howard and The Rock. He credits Howard for molding him into an actor (presumably during Hustle & Flow), and he credits The Rock for “molding me into a beast in the gym.”

A Natural Talent

Ludacris has never had any formal acting training. He said “John Singleton the director asked me to try out for the part in 2 Fast 2 Furious, and from there, I got the part, and my movie career began!”

A Family Affair

“Most bizarre fan encounter was having a woman-stripper come on my tour bus, and then her mother came on the tour bus, and started stripping for us also.”

Redman and Method Man

Blame Method Man And Redman

Remember the 2002 MTV prank show, Stung? Ludacris does. He says Meth and Red asking him to rap over a garbage beat and make frog sounds was the worst prank anyone’s ever pulled on him. Kevin Liles and Chaka Zulu appeared to be in on the joke as well.

Kris Kringle?

“When I was younger, I had a stage name, and it was ‘Kris Kringle’ until I realized I could only rap about Christmas for so long. That’s true. But I was like, 10 or 11 years old!”

A Proud Misspelling

Have you ever spelled the word ludicrous like the rapper’s name Ludacris by accident? If so, you made Luda’s day. “I’m happy about it,” Luda said of the grammatical slip ups his stage name causes. “There’s people that have lost spelling bees because of this.”

“Area Codes” Was Autobiographical

Luda says: “The song could only be but so… long. And yes, there are many area codes that I wish I could’ve put in there. However, I tried to get the ones that were as honest to the actual hoes I had in those area codes as possible.”

Real Spit

That spit take from the Fast & Furious 6 scene where Roman and Hobbs are joking about Tyrese’s forehead is real. The Rock improvised snapping on Tyrese, which caused Luda to break character and laugh. Also notice the bottle of Conjure.

“Big Hands” Luda From “Get Back” Wins

The most random question from the AMA was a fan asking if “Big Head Luda” from “Rollout” would beat “Big Hands Luda” from the “Get Back” video. Luda said, “Get Back Ludacris would win, with the big arms.”

Luda’s Listening To Kendrick

The answer to the obligatory AMA question of, “What’s the last album you listened to?” is Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly.

Thought Process

Ludacris still writes his rhymes. In case you were wondering, here is Luda’s writing method:

“I like writing in the car a lot, so I started where I’d have to listen with a CD. Now I just listen off MP3s. And I used to have to write on paper. Now I just type in my iPhone.”
