Rappers and industry heads alike know that come SXSW time in Austin, TX, Hard Knock Hoops has become a favored tradition. Those willing to take a Saturday morning off from the festival’s hustle and bustle to show off their basketball skills can attest that there’s nothing but bragging rights, sh*t talking and competition to be had out on the hardwood.

For this year’s edition of Hard Knock Hoops, artists such as Dizzy Wright, Trinidad James, Drumma Boy, Chase and Cashe, Dee-1, Dorrough Music and many more commanded their respective teams for the chance to win a Playstation 4.

Dorrough, who won the 2014 Hard Knock Hoops Tournament, looked to defend his title but learned early that Team Funk Volume, consisting of Dizzy Wright, Euro and Mr. Funk Volume himself, were the team to beat this time out. Yours truly, alongside Atlantic Records, also put a valiant effort but succumbed to the heavy competition ahead, especially as SXSW was coming to a close.

In the end, Team Funk Volume squared off against the PMK/Pepsi squad “San Turn Up” and, after several games of giving it their all, lost two games in a row to be eliminated from the double elimination tournament.

Still, everyone had a great time (a few heated arguments included). And with adidas supplying dope uniforms, D Rose 5 Boost, J Wall 1 and Pepsi putting out the refreshments and transportation, how could you complain?

Big shout outs to Nick Huff and Mark Jenkins for putting on such an incredible event year in and out.
