Foot in mouth disease may be one of America’s worst epidemics. Azealia Banks is currently suffering from an acute case and possibly swearing off the media after saying she wanted to smash the President.
There are times when a famous person says something so asinine, all they can do is say they’re sorry and keep it moving… or they can get salty and blame the media. These are those times. Each of the 15 stars that apologized for dumb quotes listed below knew they were wrong and acted accordingly.

Drake
Mr. Aubrey Graham didn’t really do anything to combat his reputation for pouting like a petulant child when he said Rolling Stone “took his cover from him at the last minute.” You know, heaven forbid a man should die when you’re trying to promote an album.
Phylicia Rashad
The part of Claire Huxtable was a career changer for Phylicia Rashad, and she probably has all kind of admiration for Bill Cosby. Even if she never said, “Forget those women” verbatim, but just because she’s known him to be “kind” and “generous” doesn’t mean he couldn’t have allegedly drugged and raped some women. The two don’t have to be mutually exclusive.
Floyd Mayweather
There is arguably no faster way to get hands put on you than to tell a grown man he can’t control his woman. T.I. had to be brain dead to try and throw hands with a man who is 46-0 in the ring, but we understand. Floyd claiming he smashed Tiny and telling Tip to “control his b***h” was an invitation for a fade, and an apology was in order.
Raven Symone
It’s understandable after 400 years of oppression not to want to be labeled according to the “one-drop rule.” But if you’re going to pontificate about your heritage, don’t make the situation worse by being factually inaccurate. Not understanding the countries within the continent of Africa? That’s so Raven.
Kanye West
During another one of his award show temper tantrums, West said Beck should’ve given back his Album of the Year GRAMMY. It probably would’ve helped if Kanye listened to the album he was slamming before opening his mouth. Ultimately, he apologized to Beck and conceded the GRAMMY was well deserved.
Method Man
It’s easy to blame Hip Hop media when the promotional cycle doesn’t go your way. First Method Man says XXL’s Miranda J misquoted him, and then he told Huff Post Live he was misinformed by her. Should she take the L because he doesn’t know the specifics of an album his group released? Should she take the L for allegedly not knowing the specifics of the project?
Karrueche Tran
Just because a reject from the SNL writer’s room puts it on paper doesn’t mean you have to say it. That was the predicament Karrueche Tran faced when she insulted Blue Ivy Carter’s buckshots in 2014 on 106 & Park. Both she and BET had to apologize, but not before the Beyhive collectively swarmed on them.
Stacey Dash
Fox contributor Stacey Dash has many nonsensical quotes to apologize for. One she actually took ownership of was insinuating sexually active women invite rape by dressing provocatively. She issued a half-hearted apology saying the comment was in jest, but nobody was laughing then or now.
Bangladesh
Bangladesh probably doesn’t like Swizz Beatz. A simple “no comment” would have worked instead of telling XXL he didn’t think Swizz was relevant. Then he made things worse by denying the claims when they had him on tape. Once the proof was out there, he had no choice but to walk back those comments.
Chris Brown
During one of their many splits, Chris Brown called Karrueche Tran everything except a child of God. He accused her of cheating with Drake, participating in threesomes, and more. That particular episode ended with some apology jewelry and him saying he “loves hard” (translation: I didn’t have my medicine). Nothing says love like a quasi Instagram apology.
Azealia Banks
Three words can save any potentially career-ending interview. If Azealia Banks really was joking to a Billboard writer about letting President Obama crush her hot pocket, it would’ve saved her a ton of grief to say she was joking right then (as opposed to weeks later) or say it was off the record.
Ne-Yo
One golden rule of press is to not speak on another man’s business. Ever. Ne-Yo learned the hard way when he decided to weigh in on T.I. and Tiny’s 2010 arrest. A statement about keeping better company was interpreted as what 99% of us felt about the situation, and Ne-Yo had to do some damage control.
Adrien Broner
Boxer Adrien Broner could have politely and professionally declined an invitation to join Roc Nation Sports. Instead he made mention of Jay performing an act on him and basically called Rihanna a THOT. Regardless of how disrespected he felt by the initial offer, he still ended up apologizing for looking unprofessional and petty at best.
Cee Lo
When you have a potential sexual assault case against you, it’s best not to talk about rape. At all. For reasons unknown, Cee Lo decided to tweet some extremely questionable thoughts about consent and if someone drugged could give such consent. Needless to say, it was a bad idea that he ended up apologizing for via a non-Twitter statement.
Peter Rosenberg
We all collectively told Rosenberg to have several seats when he made some off hand comments about Chuck D’s authority in Hip-Hop. The fact is, an OG like Chuck is the closest thing Hip-Hop has to an elected official. And props to Rosenberg for realizing the error in his ways.
