Tragedy struck this weekend after reports surfaced that actor Morgan Freeman‘s step-granddaughter was fatally stabbed in New York’s Washington Heights district. E’Dena Hines, 33, was found dead from a knife wound early Sunday with a man presumed to be her boyfriend or ex-boyfriend screaming over of her body.

Several outlets, including the New York Daily News and the New York Post, picked up the story of the fatal stabbing. The incident took place around 3:oo a.m. local time, and the Daily News shared a witness account of Hines’ murder.

From the Daily News:

Officers found E’Dena Hines, 33, lying in the middle of W. 162nd St. near St. Nicholas Ave. with several knife wounds to her chest at around 3 a.m., according to authorities.

“Get out, devils! I cast you out, devils, in the name of Jesus Christ! I cast you out!” the 30-year-old man repeatedly said, according to George Hudacko, 65, who saw the attack from his third-floor apartment and called 911.

“I watched someone get murdered, and there was nothing I could do,” Hudacko added.

The Post writes that Hines was the granddaughter of Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, Freeman’s first wife. The publication adds that her boyfriend, Lamar Davenport was under the influence of drugs and shouting religious references over her body.

Law enforcement sources told the Post that Davenport, 30, moonlights as an entertainer that goes under the name “Lyric” and has two children along with a handful of arrests. Police say Davenport was still stabbing Hines after she succumbed to the wound, and was making the motion even as they pulled him off her body.
