Longtime listeners of Wiz Khalifa know that his incessant yelling of “Taylor Gang” shows his unyielding support for his alma mater, Taylor Allderdice High School. His 2012 mixtape–Taylor Allderdice–was an obvious nod to the breeding grounds that made him the carefree star that he is today.

While school has been in session for a couple of weeks, yesterday, September 14, was as good as any time to bestow the kids with backpacks and more than 1,000 appreciate students were surprised by the school’s most famous alumni. (Antoine Fuqua and Mac Miller also graduated from the school, FYI.)

Speaking to Pittsburgh’s Action News WTAE, the 28-year-old proud stoner summed up his feelings to be able to give back to the leaders of tomorrow.

“It feels awesome to be back at Allderdice,” Khalifa told the outlet. “I love my school. I love Pittsburgh. I love being able to spread some positivity and give kids some hope. I just wanted to tell them to be themselves,” he said. “Let them know they’re doing the right thing with their lives right now by going to school and dreaming big and just trying to figure it all out.”

Taylor Allderdice principal Melissa Freiz also chimed in saying, “It’s huge. It means he hasn’t forgotten where he’s come from and so for us being able to share this moment with our students it’s a really big deal.”

Aside from posing for Instagram photo-ops, Wiz also dropped $45,000 worth of backpacks for the 1,700 students, who couldn’t express how happy they were.

“That’s one of the best moments on my life,” senior Ronald Brown told WTAE. “I love that he came back to show his support for the promise ready kids, make us want to do better in school you know. Get those grades and be something.”
