A young woman found herself in an awkward, but not uncommon, predicament at JFK Airport, U.S. Customs and Border Control officials announced yesterday (Feb. 26) . Shekira Thompson, 24, was caught smuggling $10,000 worth of cocaine in her vagina.
The drugs were wrapped up to mimic a capsule (or tampon), and weighed approximately half a pound.
Reports NYC’s Local 10 News:
Shekira Thompson was arrested Sunday at John F. Kennedy International Airport.
CBP spokesman Anthony Bucci said Thompson was questioned by officers after she arrived on a flight from Kingston, Jamaica.
Bucci said Thompson admitted to inserting about a half-pound of cocaine into her vagina.
“This seizure is just another example of our CBP officers being ever vigilant in protecting the United States from the distribution of these illicit drugs,” Robert E. Perez, director of the CBP’s New York field operations, said in a statement.
Thompson was turned over to the Port Authority Police Departments and faces narcotics smuggling charges. She is being held at Rikers Island.
