Pharrell has added college teacher to his ever-expanding resume. The i am OTHER founder hosted a private masterclass for undergrad students at the Clive Davis Institute at NYU’s Tisch School, earlier this month.

Skateboard P, who was named 50th anniversary artist-in-residence at the Tisch School. During the one-hour session he listened to students’ music, and offered constructive criticism. He also spoke on the creative process.

“The idea behind the masterclass was to have Pharrell work directly with our students, and to give them ideas about how to shape the music they’re making,” said NYU Tisch faculty member Jason King who co-led the session with Bob Power. “It’s our mission to train students as creative entrepreneurs, and few artists have married the art and business of recorded music as successfully as Pharrell.”

The Grammy-winner’s dedication to music education goes beyond a rare music session with students. Pharell and his wife Helen, have funded a scholarship program offering high school students an opportunity to attend the Clive Davis Institute through a summer program this July.
