Austin Harrouff, a former Florida high school football star and Florida State University student, was found Monday at the scene of a murder growling and biting pieces of a slain man’s face off. Harrouff, 19, stabbed a married couple to death and stabbed a third person who tried to end his violent rampage before police finally apprehended him.

In one of the most bizarre murder cases in recent times, the details of Harrouff’s heinous crime are still developing but here’s what’s been reported thus far. The Miami Herald says that Harrouff was out at dinner with family in Tequesta, Fla. when he stormed out of the sports bar reportedly angered by the bad service.

The Phi Delta Alpha member then happened upon John and Michelle Stevens, who were sitting inside their Tequesta with the garage door opened. Martin County Sheriff William Snyder says that Harrouff randomly attacked the couple unprovoked.

From the Herald:

Officers shot their stun guns at the 19-year-old multiple times to no avail. Even a police dog couldn’t get the man to release his victim.

Finally, three to four cops were able to wrench the suspect off the dead man. The man was “making animal noises,” and “grunting and growling” as officers yanked him away.

Inside the garage they found his wife, also stabbed to death. Multiple “weapons of opportunity” were used to beat, slash and attack the couple, including a switchblade the suspect was known to carry. Officials said it looked like the husband tried to fight back.

According to a PEOPLE report, it has been alleged that Harrouff was high off the synthetic drug Flakka. He is currently recovering from injuries sustained in his arrest and PEOPLE speculated that Harrouff could die of his injuries. Harrouff did not have a criminal record or a history of violence.

The suspect has not yet entered a plea according to the latest updates.
