While the nation still grapples with the rise of President-Elect Donald Trump, racists acts such as a “Whites Only” sign at a Florida high school water fountain is the latest in a recent flare up of racist acts.
As reported by local Jacksonville news outlet Action News Jax, students at First Coast High School were greeting by the racist “Whites Only” sign and an accompanying “Colored” sign over a pair of hallway water fountains last week. The images of the sign made their way to social media and sparked chatter that got overlooked mostly by the focus on Trump’s election night win.
Duval County Public Schools officials say they’re investigating the matter, treating it as if it was a silly prank pulled off by students. However, given that Trump’s win has inspired situations such as people of color and different religions getting assaulted, the water sign could signal a precursor for a growing sentiment across the nation.
