Black Lives Matter are adding economics to their approach. The organization has launched a website that will help you locate Black owned businesses to support.

Black owned businesses

BackingBlackBusiness.com is designed to drive dollars to Black-owned businesses across America. The website is a partnership between BLM and advertising firm JWT.

Per statement from BLM co-founder Patrisse Cullors:

“Black-owned business have long been a staple in the Black community providing jobs, economic security and a somewhere for us to go and feel seen and safe. In these uncertain times, we need these places more than ever.”

As of now, the beta version of the site is up and it offers 300 listings that are mainly in cities with large Black populations cities like Atlanta, St. Louis, Houston, Philadelphia, New York and Los Angeles. The listings are broken down into categories including food & beverage, health & beauty, lifestyle and entertainment.

The site is the latest in a line of efforts to bring attention to Black-owned business. Spendify and Bobspotter are two other sites and apps with a similar focus.
