Just weeks after signing with J. Cole’s Dreamville imprint, Atlanta rapper J.I.D drops off his new project The Never Story.

While many are just now hearing of J.I.D for the first time due to his J. Cole affiliation, the East Atlanta native has been putting in work for years. He has long been a part of Dreamville affiliates Earthgang’s Spillage Village collective. He also laid his roots in Atlanta’s underground working with a number of rising artists ranging from 6lack to OG Maco to Sy Ari Da Kid.

Now, with the spotlight squarely on him, he delivers his first project since his 2015 EP Dicaprio. On The Never Story J.I.D introduces listeners to his world by rapping about his past as a college football player, but getting kicked out for “hitting licks with amateurs.”

While shows that he’s skilled as a rapper on tracks like “NEVER” and “D/vision” listeners will be surprised by how enjoyable he is a singer on songs like “Hereditary” and “All Bad.”

Check out the entire project for yourself below.
