Yesterday (March 9), was the 20th anniversary of the Notorious B.I.G.‘s untimely passing, and he was in the House. By that we mean that Rep. Hakeem Jefferies paid homage to the Brooklyn MC on the House floor in Washington.

The Brooklyn Congressman’s district includes Biggie’s old Bedford–Stuyvesant neighborhood and he saluted the rapper on the floor of the House of Representatives.

Jefferies recited the start of Biggie’s hit “Juicy” before discussing the MC’s tragic death and being sure to note him as the King of New York.

“We know he went from negative to positiveAnd emerged as one of the world’s most important Hip-Hop stars. ,” said Jeffries. “His rags to riches life story is the classic embodiment of the American Dream. Biggie Smalls is gone, but he will never be forgotten.”

Well done Rep. Jeffries.
