Congresswoman Maxine Waters has been one of the most vocal opponents of the recently fired Fox News host Bill O’Reilly and didn’t mince any words in an interview this week on CNN. While on the show, Rep. Waters made it a point to celebrate O’Reilly’s firing and even threw some praise towards the conservative network for trying to change the culture of the beleaguered media giant.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper sat down with Waters, immediately launching into O’Reilly’s firing and letter the congresswoman have much of the airtime during their segment.

“I’m very proud of what I understand of what took place,” said Waters. She added that she heard that Lachlan and James Murdoch, the sons of Fox News CEO and News Corp Executive Chairman Robert Murdoch, orchestrated O’Reilly’s ouster.

“They’re trying to take this station into a new era and so I’m very that they did that. I’m pleased with the advertisers who decided that they were going to pull their ads from his show. I’m so pleased with the women who came forward who were victims and decided that they were going to expose what happened to them,” Waters added.

Allegations of sexual harassment and a culture of such occurrences have dogged Fox News in times past but most recently with its big cash cow in O’Reilly, who made millions per year in his highly-rated The O’Reilly Factor program. O’Reilly has taken aim at Waters in recent weeks which the congresswoman deftly dodged and continued to challenge the host and her other current target, President Donald Trump.

Cooper told Waters that President Trump defended O’Reilly by saying he didn’t do anything illegal, to which the congresswoman responded with her usual wit.

“You can’t pay any attention to what the president says. They’re cut from the same cloth, they’re two of a kind,” said Waters.

For the President of the United States of America to stand up for a man who spent 13 million dollars in settlements, even though he claims he’s done nothing wrong, certainly he didn’t spend all of that money and make these settlements because he was innocent.”
